"Minute of Listening" is a great project to encourage active listening and bring many and varied sounds and music into the room. Although it has been used in schools, Sound And Music also have a free trial where you can try out hundreds of their "minutes". Here's an introduction:

You can use these sounds as a way to create some calm and focus before learning. And they can also be a springboard for other ideas - to explore the people, places and cultures that come across through a minute of sound. These "minutes" can help spark other areas of learning, whether art, science or geography.
And why not encourage young people in your family to create their own minute (60 seconds of sound, recorded on a phone or tablet) to create something interesting, or just to share the sounds in your home, or found on your daily exercise?
